The Kids go Marching One by One
I you've just got babies and only a few toddlers, don't actually go marching, just tap you legs to keep the beat. For a Storytime you can use rhythm sticks though!

Well, we've been all over the world, but what about outer space?

(I just tell this story since the book is too small to read to a group. I use a puppet monster(or dragon or alien) a daisy, a rock and a little tree. I like to have a few older children hold the rock, the flower, the tree and the banana - older kids that will not be scared by the monster)


That was a little scary there.
Glad we were able to be friends with that alien monster.
Do you think he will take us for a trip in his rocket ship?

Nope, not cheese. Just sandy dust, but let's keep exploring...


Reach for the Stars

Wait a minute? What was THAT?
That was a COW! How did a cow get up here?



Hey Diddle Diddle
I like to have the puppets/stuffed animals for this part - not the dish or spoon though...


Hey diddle diddle,The cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon,
The little dog laughed to see such fun,
And the dish ran away with the spoon


Silly old cow.
And where did that dish and spoon get to, I can't seem to find them at all!

Let's keep exploring!
I've also heard that there might be a man that lives here on the moon!

Stomp. Pouf. Stomp. Jump!
ACK!!! I don't see a man, but I DO see a Great Big Green MONSTER!!

I use the felt story or the book is large enough and simple enough for a LT - or get creative and make a felt green Alien.and don't come back unless I say so!

Bubble Hop Stop
I have a 'bubble gun' that was a big hit- just walk through the crowd shooting bubbles as you repeat the rhyme.

One bubble, 2 bubbles, 3 bubbles, top.
4 bubbles, 5 bubbles, 6 bubbles, hop
7 bubbles, 8 bubbles, 9 bubbles, pop
10 bubbles floating down, time to stop.


Look around, what do you see?


Baby Octopus
Skip to My Lou tune

Eight long arms and two big eyes
Salty tears when he cries
Lives down deep in the bottom of the sea
Can you guess what he can be?

See him wiggle, see him slide
Try to catch him, he will hide
Give him a kiss so he won't fuss
He's a baby octopus!

Oh no! Here comes his mama!








Mrs. Octopus
This is an altered version of Five Green and Speckled Frogs that a young patron Carly made up

Five little fishies swimming in the sea,
Teasing Mrs. Octopus,
You can’t catch me, you can’t catch me


Along comes Mrs. Octopus, quiet as can be…
And SNAPS that fishie right out of the sea!

Four little fishies swimming in the sea
…repeat until…
No more fishies swimming in the sea
…Mrs. Octopus has a full tummy!


Look up, up, up. There's our boat!
Swim, swim, swim. Hop in and ...



Row Row Row Your Boat

Row, row, row your boat gently in the sea,

Sea Shore Laptime Fun

Let's go on an adventure shall we? A pretend, make-believe day at the shore!

Have you got your mommy or daddy with you? This is an adventure for both of you to go on together. Are you holding hands?

There goes a starfish and sand dollar,
I'm having such fun,

Sand Wishes
One of my favorite wishes
Is to play in sand that squishes
To make a sand castle and sand cake
And leave them in the sun to bake
Will it feel good, do you suppose?
To squish the sand between my toes?


Consider bringing a bucket with a bit of sand in it for the kids to touch and feel. It would be great to have some shells and little plastic crab hidden in the sand for some kids to look for.

I Went to Nantucket
I went to Nantucket,
to fill my bucket with sand

 - mime putting sand in bucket

But a wave came ashore
 - sit back in surprise
Now woe is me,
-shake head, poor me

My bucket's gone off to sea
 - point off in the distance
No sand and no bucket no more 
- wave goodbye

Bubble, Hop and Stop
One bubble, 2 bubbles, 3 bubbles, top.

-fingers count up, tap head once on 'top', pop up to standing

4 bubbles, 5 bubbles, 6 bubbles, hop
-fingers count up, then hop

7 bubbles, 8 bubbles, 9 bubbles, pop
-keep counting, clap hands at 'pop'

10 bubbles floating down, time to stop.
-sit down


Can you hear me?
-Burble burble Burble burble (pointer finger goes up and down rapidly over your lips as you talk - sounds the same as if you were to stand in front of a fan and talk

Wow, things sure sound funny under the water, don't they. This is fishie talk. Look, over there!

Slippery Fish

Slippery fish, slippery fish
 
- Slide palms backwards and forwards - slipping
Swimming through the water,

Slippery fish, slippery fish
Gulp! Gulp! Gulp!
 
-hands to face, dismay, surprise, shock

Oh, NO! I've been eaten by an...

Octopus, Octopus,

- arms out and slowly waving up and down like an octopus
Swimming in the water,

Oh, Octopus, Octopus...
Gulp! Gulp! Gulp!

-hands to face, dismay, surprise, shock

Oh, NO! I've been eaten by a...

Great big shark, great big shark

 -arms open and shut from the elbow to the hands, fingers interlock when they meet for sharp teeth.
Swimming in the water

Great big shark, great big shark
Gulp! Gulp! Gulp!
 
-hands to face, dismay, surprise, shock

Oh, NO! I've been eaten by a ...

Humongous whale, humongous whale

-arms open and shut in a huge 'whale-mouth' motion

-hands to face, dismay, surprise, shock

Oh, NO!!! Oh ..
-look around, look...who ate it...

 
YOU ate it!

 -look at utter surprise on your face as you gesture to a child


If You Ever, Ever, Never 

(if you have a whale puppet have a child hold it for the song)

If you ever, ever, ever, met a whale, whale, whale
~ wag your finger back and forth in a no-no signal, while your head turns back and forth the opposite way

You must never, never, never touch its tail, tail, tail, tail


For if you ever, ever, ever, touch its tail, tail, tail
 ~ do the wag thing, but then point to 'tail'

You will never, never, never, meet another whale, whale, whale

 ~ go back to doing the wag thing, then hands out, palms up, shrug - oh well.

Then I let him go again

Why did you let him go?

Because he bit my finger so
~shrug shoulders

-open and shut fingers to thumb

Five Little Fishies

Five little fishies swimming in the sea 
- fingers swimming like fishies

Teasing Mrs. Octopus,
Can't catch me, can't catch me

- while saying this, make burbling bubble sounds with other hand and mouth

Then along came Mrs. Octopus,
As quiet as can be...
- bring other hand slowly swimming like an octopus from behind back

And SNAPPED that fishie right out of the sea!

- snap at one finger on the fishy hand and then put that finger down

Four little fishies swimming in the sea...


Three Little Fishies
Down in the meadow in a little bitty pool
Swam two little fishies and a mama fishy too
Swim, said the mama fishy,
Swim if you can
And they swam and they swam all over the dam


Boop Boop Dittem Dattem Wat-tem Choo!

Stop, said the mama fishy,
Or you will get lost
The two little fishies didn't want to be bossed
The two little fishies went off on a spree

I Had a Little Turtle
I had a little Turtle

- one hand on top of other, thumbs out and wiggling for legs
His name was Tiny Tim
I put him in the bathtub
 - hand turtle swims up and down
To see if he could swim

He drank up all the water
- ASL sign for water - 3 fingers tap chin

He ate up all the soap
- head to hand, testing forehead for temperature
And now he's sick in bed with a bubble in his throat!
 - point to throat

hiccup!
- oops, surprised look

Big- hands form a bubble in front of mouth

Bigger
- bubble grows

Biggest....
- bubble is HUGE now.... anticipate it, turn your head, eyes dart to the bubble, it's gonna...

POP!
- clap hands together


We Clap Our Hands
We clap our hands and wave good bye, bye bye

-clap and wave as directed

We clap our hands and wave bye bye

Bye bye

Goodbye for now kiddos and remember to be safe!
