Everything's all coming up green!

Open with Kermit Unpigged

(it's best as pre-music, it's rather slow to be using during the program)

Green de dum, greeny grin green. Green, green green . . .
(walking along, on a stroll with the Laptime Box in my arms)

Oh, hello there everyone! What a surprise to see all of you here!
You know, you are just in time!

I'm on a hunt. A big hunt!
I'm looking for Green.

See, I've heard a lot of people talking about going green and well,

I just figured I needed to find green before I go turning green. Gotta see if I like it, you know? I mean, really now, what if tastes funny, or what if it's big and gigantic and huge and it won't fit in my bedroom and it squashes my bed and I don't want it anymore and it won't go away!

No?
You say it's not like that?

It's a color?? Like in the rainbow?

Phew. What a relief. I'm still trying to figure out what it IS.

Guess what though, my friends have put together this box of green for me, I'm going to see what we have . . .

Hmm, it's a book.
(pull book out of the box)

Hah!
It looks like I'm not the only one having hard time finding green . . .

So that's green!
He's the same color as a bush!
And a bush is green too!

What else do we have in the box . . .

(I use a flannel version, saving the frog for the last)

Ooooh, Frogs! Frogs are Green!
I know frogs. Ribbit Ribbit.
(Reading in Bed is Terrific! Ribit!)
No? Yes?

(go back to the box and pull out... FROGS!)

Five Green and Speckled Frogs

Five green and speckled frogs
Sat on a speckled log,
Eating the most delicious bugs,
Yum, yum.

One jumped into the pool
Where it was nice and cool,
("get your 'fours' out, can you show me 4?" - little ones are SO much fun to watch as they try to get the right amount of fingers up!)

Now there are four green speckled frogs
Glub, glub.

Four green and speckled frogs
Sat on a speckled log . . .
(diving into the box again, we find...book/flannel/puppet version - whatever works for the age you've got today)

(once more to the box, and it's a TURTLE!)

I Had a Little Turtle

I had a little turtle,
His name was Tiny Tim
I put him in the bathtub
To see if he could swim.

He drank up all the water
He ate up all the soap,
And now he's sick in bed
With a bubble in his throat.

Hiccup!

big
-blow a bubble, hands expand larger and larger as we go
Bigger
BIGGEST
-watch out, turn your head away, get ready, and . . .

POP!
-clap!

Wow, that was fun!
Let's see what else we have in our box . . .
(reach into box again, shy away- really ham this one up - act VERY worried, scared and timid.)

Uh, I think we are done now.
Yep.

I don't think we can do this next one.

Nope. Not at all.

It's, well, it's . . .
scary (said in that very timid scared voice)

You really want to see it?
No, I don't think so.

You DO think so?
Are you sure?
Oh, oh...okay, but don't say I didn't warn you,
(pull the felt green circle for the beginnings of Go Away Big Green Monster--I really work this one up, you can have the kids rolling in the aisles if you do this right--as you put each item on the green flannel face, you can hardly stand to touch it, it's so scary! Add sound effects, some zoops and schwoops as you take away parts for the last half.)

Frog Frolics

Hop, Skip and a Jump! Ribbit Plop SPLASH!!

Today our Laptime is all about a certain little creature, a funny looking creature. Maybe you can guess what he is...

The Hoppameleon
by Paul Geraghty
not available at Orem Library

Do you know what they changed the name of that Babylizzyparrothoppameleon to?

Frog!??! No way! You really think so?

Well, that little frog met the chameleon when he was out catching flies, do frogs really eat flies?? Let's see...

The Wide-Mouthed Frog by Keith Faulkner

Photobucket

I guess they really DO eat flies!
Hmm, can you be just like that wide-mouthed frog?

Let's see...

Open Them Shut Them

Open them, shut them
~hold your hands out, open wide then shut them up in fists /not just your hands, eyes and mouth too!

Open them, shut them
Give a little Clap
~clap

Open them, shut them
~hold your hands out, open wide then shut them up in fists
Fold them in your lap
~fold arms

... now get that mischevious look in your eye...

Creep them, creep them, creep them
~fingers walk up belly and up up up, this is VERY tickly
All the way to your chin...
Open your mouth wide

~open mouth

Oh, but do not let them in!
 ~hide hands behind back

Oh, I saw some BIG OPEN eyes there! Frogs DO have some mighty big eyes...

Gunk Gunk

Gunk gunk went the little green frog one day
Gunk Gunk went the little green frog

Gunk gunk went the little green frog one day
Gunk Gunk went the little green frog

And his eyes went
Blink blink blink

~blink your eyes - can all the kids do it? Give lots of encouragement!

Oooh, and frogs have such big strong legs! There is a very good reason they've got such hoppability...

A Frog Went a-Hoppin'
an adorable song from Let's Play Music

Oh, and he got a peek of you too! What do you think that ol' froggie did when he saw us? Do you think he went a hoppin' on over the bank...

Down By The Bank of The Hanky Pank

Down by the bank
of the, hanky pank
where the bull frog
jumped from,bank to bank

with an
eep, op, ip, ap, a-slop
he hopped on the lilly with a great big

KER-PLOP!

Oh, now that's not fun! I just wanted to be friends with those frogs!
Hmmm, do you think they have friends down there already?

Crazy Crabs

Crazy crabs walk sideways,
~have kids step sideways

What a silly way to go
Snails slip slide forwards
-slide feet forward, slowly

And that is very slow

Ducks waddle, waddle,
- waddle waddle like a duck

And that is funny too,

Bullfrogs hop, hop - hop
And that's the best way to go!

Shall we go chasing those frogs? I really don't want to get wet though. I have a great idea, let's get in a boat!

Row Row Row Your Boat
by Pippa Goodhart
- or just sing it without the book -

Row Row Row Your Boat
Row Row Row Your Boat
- pretend oars
 Gently down the stream
- keep rowing
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
 - more rowing
Life is but a dream
- lay back and say 'ahhhh'(soaking up the sun)

This is the life! Sitting in a boat, rockin' in the waves, the sun is out and it's warm. Ahhhhh.

~ look up, what do you see? Direct kids attention to the sky

What do you see?

 It Looked Like Spilt Milk
by Charles Shaw
(I have made felt/flannel board story -scroll down a bit- out of this book, perfect for Laptime or Storytime)

I think frogs get to look up in the sky all day,
I wonder what else they do all day.
Kerplop! What was that I heard?
Kerplop! Oh, there they are...

Eating some most delicious bugs yum, yum
- rub tummy, nod head, yes, yummmy!
One jumped into the pool,
- one finger goes diving off arm
PhotobucketWhere it was nice and cool,
- hands out shrug shoulders, I know, what can you do, these silly frogs ;)

Then there were 4 green speckled frogs.
Glub, Glub

Four green and speckled frogs...

Another fun frog idea...

Froggie in the Middle
Circle game
Frog in the middle and he can't get out
~everyone on a circle, holding hands, 1 'frog' pretends to try and get out of the circle
Frog in the middle and he can't get out
Frog in the middle and he can't get out
Oh, my lady day-O!

Frog in the middle and he didn't get out
~drop hands and everyone boogies! Particularly our 'froggie'

Frog in the middle and he didn't get out
Frog in the middle and he didn't get out
Oh, my laddie day-O!
